  Life of Riley

Hello again!

I am so excited the cold weather is behind us….we have so much to look forward to this spring. As I am sure most of you will agree, spring is the time to shed the winter weight (or coat in my case), get out looking your best and enjoy the town. I’m sure I will be seeing all of you at the 4th annual Greentree Close Summer Sale in June. The sale only happens once a year and it features many great buys. We plan to have paramedics on the premises due to the aggressive antics of last year’s patrons, perhaps best exemplified by a well-known Lexingtonian who sprained her wrist climbing over the wall at 7 a.m. the morning of the sale. Her name will remain a well-guarded secret with me. I don’t get that excited even when they are throwing out leftover T-bones at Malone’s. With Spring comes rebirth and a lot of that is going on around here. I am anticipating the arrival of Belle Maison’s latest shipment. I will now have a huge selection of Louis XV Bergeres to sit on. Or perhaps I will choose a bistro chair outside in the sun where I can enjoy an even better view of the action. I will have to make a trip across the parking lot to see all of the new merchandise at Greentree Antiques too.

Gay and John are quite the Renaissance men, in addition to their culinary feats at the tearoom they are astute antiquarians who have been busy acquiring many fine continental furnishings for their antique shop. And who could ever keep up with Meg? The brown truck comes in and out of here all day with gorgeous new things for L.V. Harkness. And now merchandise from Turkey;what country is she going to conquer next? Another nice thing about spring is, "love is in the air." I see it daily with all the future brides and grooms who come to register for their weddings.Which reminds me…thanks to all of you who responded about my need to improve my love life (see last newsletter). It has improved, I recently had the pleasure of meeting Lily and Lizzie, two knockout Yorkys. I hope I don't have to choose, they are great. I think I can handle them both. It is time to start making plans for the many events and parties coming up, races at Keeneland and the Derby, Brunch and Bibelots at the Headley Whitney Museum, the High Hope Steeplechase (don’t you just love that Jack Russell dog racing event?). I have to go check with Sue Ann about my new outfits. I hear robin’s egg blue is all the rage this year. Sure hope it looks good on me. See you soon!

Your friend,
               Riley
