The Life of Riley

I hope you like my new look. I mean the construction hat. I found it to be necessary attire with all the building going on at Greentree Close. Things have been pretty chaotic what with all the workers, the heavy equipment, bricks and mortar, and everything else that goes with a construction project. Gay Reading said the project will be completed in September or October. I sure hope so. It’s been hot and dusty and noisy and worst of all, the construction foreman brings his Jack Russell to work every day. His name is Buddy and he spends most of the day high up on the scaffolding. I think he’s an exhibitionist. Part of my job description these days is to keep an eye on Buddy and to oversee the construction. I feel really useful when they let me help drive the giant forklift tractor. The construction site is a little bit of an inconvenience for customers but the end result will be worth it. The rendering is beautiful and best of all, there will be a new grassy area for me to use when I take my breaks.

Other than the construction, the big news at The Close this month is all about our big summer sale—the fifth annual event. You can read all about it elsewhere in this newsletter.

Many of our customers look forward to our sale because of the opportunity to purchase beautiful and precious items for large discounts. It’s a one-day event so mark your calendar now (Saturday, June 23) so you won’t be left out. And be sure to get here early so you won’t have to park on the street. Summer is back and I’m spending a lot of my free time on my raft in our family pool. I’m thinking about going to camp this season but I haven’t picked a spot. I heard about this place in the Catskills that caters to canines but I don’t know if I want to be around a bunch of snobby dogs from the East. I’ll probably settle for the Carolinas.
Still looking for an assistant. I’ve gone through a long list of applicants but none has totally measured up to my high standards. I’ve almost come to the conclusion that our shop isn’t big enough for two mascots. I can’t imagine having to share my fans (and treats) with someone else, cute and adorable or not. I hope you have a terrific summer. See you on the 23rd, if not before.

Your friend,
               Riley
